Navigating this historic waterway, once a bustling artery of commerce, one can feel the echoes of the past. OUR FLEET

The Butte Sailing Club (BSC) maintains a fleet of club-owned sailboats available to members and sailing students. These range from agile dinghies up to larger keel and beach-style boats, typically trailerable and between ten to twenty-four feet in length. Specifically, BSC offers dinghy-style boats, as well as larger vessels including the O’Day 18, Hobie 16, and San Juan 21—each requiring a separate checkout process due to their size and handling differences. To take out any of these club boats, members must complete a safety-oriented checkout demonstrating skills like rigging, docking, sailing across wind points, executing tacks and jibes, recovering from irons and capsizes, and performing person-overboard drills. The emphasis is on safety and competence, ensuring both fun and responsibility on the water.
